An introduction to Islam

Islam is one of the world's major religions, with over 1.8 billion followers, making up about 24% of the world's population. It is the second-largest religion after Christianity. Muslims, as followers of Islam are called, can be found in all parts of the world, but the majority live mainly in north Africa the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
The word "Islam" comes from the Arabic word "Salam" which means "Peace and surrender." Muslims believe that there is only one God, Allah, and that Muhammad is his final prophet. The Qur'an, which Muslims believe is the word of God, is the central religious text of Islam. It was revealed through the angel Gabriel to Muhammad over a period of 23 years, beginning in 610 CE.
The five pillars of Islam are the foundation of the Muslim faith. They are:
Shahada: The declaration of faith that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is his messenger.
Salah: The five daily prayers, which are performed at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and evening.
Sawm: The fasting during the month of Ramadan, from dawn to dusk.
Zakat: The annual charitable donation, which is calculated as a percentage of one's wealth.
Hajj : The pilgrimage to Mecca, which is the duty of every Muslim who is able to make the journey.
In addition to the five pillars, there are many other practices and beliefs that are important to Muslims. These include:
The belief in angels and jinn. Angels are beings created by Allah to worship him and to carry out his commands. Jinn are spiritual beings that can be good or evil.
All Allah messengers and prophets including from Noe till Mohamed Peace and blessings upon them all, the top five Prophets are Noe, Abraham, Moïse, Jesus and Mohamed the last One.
The belief in the Day of Judgment. Muslims believe that on the Day of Judgment, all people will be resurrected and judged for their deeds. Those who are found to be righteous will be rewarded with paradise, while those who are found to be wicked will be punished in hell.
The belief in predestination. Muslims believe that Allah knows everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen. However, they also believe that humans have free will and are responsible for their own actions.
Islam is a rich religion with a long and diverse history. It is a religion that emphasizes peace, compassion, and social justice. Muslims are called to live their lives in accordance with the teachings of the Qur'an and the example of the Prophet Muhammad.
